The Historical Museum of Crete is a pioneering museum of the country. The halls of this “smart”, interactive museum housed in one of the most beautiful neoclassical buildings of the city are considered to be a meeting point where different civilizations, eras and places meet with the contemporary art.
The museum has been modernized and uses audiovisual media to present the history of the island from the early Christian centuries to the modern times. Among the most impressive exhibits of the museum is the model of the city of Chandax which dates back to the 17th century and two paintings created by Dominikos Theotokopoulos.
